Getting a new air conditioner or furnace installed requires a clear path for our technicians and the heavy equipment. A few simple steps before we arrive will help the day go smoothly.
What to Expect on Installation Day
A new heating and air conditioning system is a major upgrade for your home. We know that having contractors in your house disrupts your daily routine, so we aim to keep the process organized. We provide a call 30 minutes before the technician arrives, inside your scheduled arrival window. When our installers arrive at your Las Vegas home, they go over where the new indoor and outdoor units will go and the plan for the day.
Clearing the Path to the Equipment
Our installers carry heavy equipment and tools through your home. You can help by clearing the pathways from the front door to the indoor unit and to the backyard. Move any small rugs, hallway tables, decorative items and plants that sit in the main walkways. If your indoor unit is in a garage, please pull your vehicles out into the driveway or street. If the furnace or air handler sits in a hall closet, remove any boxes, coats or cleaning supplies stored inside or near the door.
In many valley homes, the indoor unit is in the attic. If your system requires attic access, move furniture away from the area under the access hatch. We need enough space to set up a ladder safely and lift the bulky equipment up and down. Outside, make sure the gate is unlocked and clear any garden hoses, patio furniture or debris away from the outdoor unit so the team has room to work.
Protecting Your Home and Pets
We treat your property with respect. Our technicians use shoe covers and drop cloths to protect your floors and carpets while they work. However, installation day involves moving large metal components, taking down old duct connections and working with electrical wiring. It is best to keep children and pets away from the work areas for their own safety.
Dogs and cats can get frightened by the noise of power tools and the constant movement in and out of the doors. We recommend keeping pets secured in a closed bedroom, a comfortable laundry room, or at a pet daycare for the day. This keeps them safe from the heavy equipment and prevents them from slipping outside while our technicians bring tools through the open doors.
The Installation Process and Safety
Removing an old system involves handling electrical connections, gas lines and refrigerants. Every technician at Kestrel Heating & Air who handles refrigerant holds EPA Section 608 certification. Once the old equipment is safely removed, the team will set the new units in place, connect the ductwork and wire the system. They test the system, check the airflow and run it in cooling and heating.
If you are upgrading to a new system because your old one failed, you are likely receiving equipment that uses a modern refrigerant. Since January 1, 2025, new residential air conditioners and heat pumps are made for lower-impact refrigerants such as R-454B and R-32.
The Final Walkthrough and Warranties
When the installation is finished, the work area is cleaned before the technician leaves. The lead installer will walk you through the new system, show you how to operate your new thermostat and answer any questions you have. We also provide instructions on how to maintain the system, such as how to change the filter. ENERGY STAR recommends checking the filter every month and changing it at least every three months.
During this walkthrough, the installer helps you register the equipment with the manufacturer where registration is required. Our new system installations include:
- A two-year labor warranty from Kestrel Heating & Air
- The manufacturer’s parts warranty for the new equipment
- A satisfaction guarantee on the installation job
We want you to feel confident in your new equipment and understand how to operate it before we drive away from your house.
