Replacing a central air conditioner or gas furnace is a major home investment. Third-party financing offers a way to spread those costs out rather than paying a lump sum upfront.

When to Consider a New System

According to ENERGY STAR, it may be time to consider replacement for an air conditioner or heat pump older than 10 years and a furnace older than 15. In Las Vegas, where July high temperatures average 104.5 degrees Fahrenheit, summer cooling runs for months. The National Weather Service reports that about 78 days a year reach 100 degrees, and about 47 nights stay at 80 degrees or warmer. This means your cooling equipment runs almost continuously during the summer months.

Your outdoor unit sits in direct sun and monsoon dust, which takes a toll on the equipment. Carrier and ENERGY STAR note that central air conditioners and gas furnaces commonly last about 15 to 20 years, while heat pumps typically last about 10 to 15 years. When an older system breaks down, you have to decide whether to repair or replace it. If replacement is the better path, the upfront cost can be significant. This is where financing helps spread the expense over time.

    Getting a Written Estimate First

Before looking at payment options, you need an accurate cost for the new equipment and installation. The process starts with a free, in-home written estimate. An estimator looks at your whole home before recommending a size. They evaluate the rooms, insulation levels, window placement, sun exposure, and your existing ductwork. They also consider how your family uses the house. Sizing is never based on square footage alone.

You should receive two or three equipment options when more than one fits your home. This allows you to choose the system that matches your needs and budget. The estimate should include the total cost for the complete system replacement, including the new indoor and outdoor equipment.

    Applying for Third-Party Financing

Once you choose a new central air conditioner, heat pump, or gas furnace, you can look into financing. HVAC contractors typically work with third-party lenders to offer financing options. Financing is subject to credit approval through the lender.

You apply with the third-party lender, and the lender makes the credit decision. The lender evaluates the application and makes a credit decision.

    • Choose the new system from your written estimate.
    • Apply with the third-party lender.
    • The lender decides on credit approval and sets the terms, so read them before you sign.

    Understanding Rebates and Incentives

In addition to financing, local incentives might help offset the cost of new equipment. For example, NV Energy offers the PowerShift program, which provides discounts on qualifying air conditioners and heat pumps. These discounts are applied through approved contractors. There is also a free smart thermostat program called FlexResponse.

Your contractor can help you check which programs apply to the equipment you choose. It is important to note that the federal 25C home-improvement tax credit ended for equipment installed after December 31, 2025. As of October 2026, Nevada’s HOMES and HEAR rebates have not launched. Reviewing available incentives gives you a clearer picture of the final amount you need to finance.

    Warranties and Long-Term Protection

When you finance a new system, you want to know the equipment is protected. In Southern Nevada, where the summer heat is intense, the outdoor unit works incredibly hard. Proper installation and warranty coverage are critical. New system installations come with a manufacturer parts warranty, with the length set by the manufacturer. Registration may be required. During the walkthrough after a new installation, your installer should help you register the equipment.

Kestrel Heating & Air installations carry a two-year labor warranty. ENERGY STAR recommends checking your filter every month and changing it at least every three months. They also advise having your cooling checked in the spring and your heating checked in the fall.
